Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge is a river floodplain in northwest Missouri, near Mound City. Migrating species of ducks, snow geese and the endangered or endangered species as the bald eagle, golden plover and peregrine falcons find a significant seasonal migration of Squaw Creek. One the best and easiest ways to explore the refuge and observe the local fauna is the unit of ten miles long, self-guided auto winding through wetlands. There are two ways to visitors who prefer to travel closer to the action – On foot. Eagle Overlook Trail hikers take a stroll through the wetlands. The Loess Bluff Trail makes a better, rising 200 feet to the crest of the reservation of the cliffs. At this point, Visitors enjoy the analysis, Eagle-eye from the land of refuge.
In the farmlands of Missouri, north central, near Macon Long Branch State Park located on the shores of the 2,000 acres of Long Branch Lake. Located in southeastern Missouri near Van Buren, Ozark National Scenic Waterways was established by the National Park Service, in an effort to maintain 134 miles of Highland Jack Fork and Current Rivers. The reserve is located in a region where the hardwood forests and pines overlap, resulting in an interesting mix of flora and wildlife, including wildflowers. There are many sources that feed the two rivers, and sinks and hundreds of mysterious caves. Water Activities the primary Ozark National Scenic Waterways are fishing, canoeing, tubing, canoeing and swimming. The beautiful woods are ideal for land-based hiking, hunting, observation wildlife and horseback riding.
